This position is part of NASSTEC, a project of the Marie Curie initial training networks, funded by the European Union (see Annex I for a detailed description of the project).
The chosen candidate should develop the ability to evaluate, select and cultivate seeds of important herbaceous taxa in herbaceous cover of woody crops for the restoration of olive groves. Among the main activities are: to carry out evaluation works of ongoing trials for the selection of species that are best adapted to their use as plant cover in olive groves. In particular, he will be responsible for evaluating field trials of biomass germination and evaluation, developing a crop guide, conducting seed pretreatment trials and attending scientific reports in the final phase of the project.
He/she will also have the opportunity to acquire knowledge in European seed biology by attending an international meeting in September organized by NASSTEC in the Royal Botanical Garden of Kew (London).
Candidates must be in the first part of their academic career, having recently graduated and not have already obtained a doctor's degree (phD). As a condition of mobility, candidates must not have resided or worked in Spain for more than 12 months in the last 3 years, counted from the end date of the call.
The selected candidate will be supervised by Dr. Borja Jiménez-Alfaro (iDiv and Martin Luther University – Germany, scientific advisor of Semillas Silvestres), Angela Medran Viñas and Dr. Cándido Gálvez (Semillas Silvestres, Spain).
The base salary will be € 37,126.00 per annum, which is supplemented by a mobility allowance of € 8,206.80. In the case of a Researcher with a family this amount is supplemented by a further contribution of € 3,517.20 per annum. The definition of a family complies with the one accepted under the Spanish national legislation. These quantities are calculated under the provisions of the EU for the ESR positions in Marie Curie Actions, and the corresponding correction coefficients of 0.977 for Spain.
All the amounts quoted are gross amounts that include all compulsory deductions under national legislation (i.e. all direct taxes and social security contributions, both those charged to the employers and those charged to the employee. Consequently the net amount might vary according to the special situation of each ESR and to the possible variation during the project duration of the compulsory deductions under the national legislation.
Candidates will be evaluated trough an impartial process based on a comparative evaluation of the CVs and an interview in English. The Evaluation Panel will be formed by Cándido Gálvez (general coordinator), Borja Jiménez-Alfaro (scientific coordinator), Ángela Medrán (project manager) and one external advisor from NASSTEC participants.

To be considered eligible, candidates must hold a degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or related disciplines for not more than 4 years, according to the specifications detailed in Annex I.
Eligible candidates are expected to accomplish the following skills: a proven interest in plant ecology and/or native seed science; technical expertise in a field and laboratory environment; proven capability in statistical analysis; fluency in English; highly developed written and verbal communication; skills as scientific presentations and writing; driving licence (car).
Other valuable skills: ability to integrate into a human team in record time and adaptability to the working conditions of a small business; Publications related to the topic.

hold a second level Degree or an equivalent qualification or a first level degree with additional research, work and training experience equivalent to a second level degree;

have not been awarded a doctoral degree (PhD);
